Before I step away from all things digital detoxing and pretty paper items (for awhile, at least), allow me to share with you an idea. It’s a practice that you may already know about, and may already be practicing. Some of you out there may not have ever done this though; but by the end of this post you may find yourself wanting to give it a try! Need a hint? Start journaling.
If you’re thinking, ‘Well, I’m not a very good writer!” or “I never know what to write!”, I’ll share with you just how effortless and exciting journaling can be, regardless to how much/little you write or what you write about. The sky is truly the limit when it comes to what you can do. It’s your journal after all.
Simple Ways to Add Journaling to Your Life
For the good days:
Lots of girls have what we call ‘gratitude journals’ which they use as a way to remember events, experiences or simply a good thing someone said to them that made them smile. At the end of a long day, you can sit back, relax and reflect on the moments that encouraged you the most. This pays off so that you’re well suited up when the bad days come. When they do, you can literally flip a few pages back to the day when someone ahead of you at the coffee shop paid for your iced coffee. (You know, that unexpected surprise that made your day.)
And especially for the bad days
As a stationery addict, I get weak at the knees for cute journals (as evidenced by my collection; well the snippet of my collection I’ll show you). I like all the pretty things. What I write inside them though? Not always a happy-ending sort of story. As much as capturing the sunshine-y moments of your day is a mood-booster, capturing the not-so-stellar moments pays off too. Your best friend made a passing comment that was really insensitive and didn’t say sorry? Before you completely call that friendship quits, or ‘return the favor’, it pays to clear your mind by clearing your feelings on paper.
Imagine how many ‘oops’ moments we can avoid by clearing our heads before speaking our minds.
Think of it as taking a deep breath…on paper.
It’s Your World
The best thing about personal journaling is that there are absolutely no rules.
If you can’t quite get your thoughts out but they’re raging through your brain, why not write out short lists about what’s going through your mind at the time?
You can decorate as much (or as little) as you want; with stickers, washi tape, stamps, your own doodles. The options are (literally) endless!

One Final Perk
Growing up (and still to this day) my mom told me that the more you do something, the better you naturally get at it. She tells me that to improve my writing, I should write (and read) more! If you’re having a hard time with essays or report writing, try a bit of writing on a less formal level, with way less pressure. Write at your own pace, in your own time, in your own journal. What’s better, it’s not being graded!
